The Three Affiliated Tribes Museum honors the heritage of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Tribes. This project aims to blend contemporary architectural design with the existing A-frame structure, paying homage to the rich heritage and history of the MHA cultures with renovation of the existing 7,100 SF museum and a 6,800 SF addition.

The original A-frame building, designed by Denby Deegan—one of the first Native American architects in the United States and a member of the MHA Nation—will undergo interior remodeling. This renovation will improve and expand exhibit spaces while preserving the building’s distinctive architectural character.

The new addition will compliment the existing A-frame building and will include a striking curved curtainwall near the entrance that will create an inviting, modern focal point for visitors. The new structure will house more of the accessory spaces, allowing the original building to focus more on exhibits and educational displays. Enhanced visitor amenities, including restrooms, seating areas, and a gift shop, will be incorporated into the addition to improve the overall visitor experience.

The addition and remodel of the Three Affiliated Tribes Museum will emphasize harmony and make the museum more accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all visitors.
