An expansion of the courts
Ramsey County is one of two counties that make up the Twin Cities Metro Area of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. Due to the increased demand on the court system, the county leaders made the decision to expand their operations to include a new facility which was placed in the adjacent suburb of Maplewood.
The objective was to hold arraignments and conduct non-jury trials for low-level felonies and misdemeanor crimes. This less secure facility would make it more convenient for the public and less expensive to operate for the county.
The facility contains two courtrooms with related support spaces as well as administrative and business space. Much of the exterior design was drawn from the adjacent Maplewood City Hall and surrounding municipal park setting.
