Katherine Gerzina of DSGW Architects becomes a Fitwel Ambassador to focus on built environments that support health

Katherine Gerzina, AIA, Fitwel Ambassador

DSGW Architects is pleased to announce that Katherine Gerzina, Architect, is now a Fitwel Ambassador. Fitwel was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and the General Services Administration; it is the world’s leading certification system that optimizes buildings to support health.

“We are seeing an increased interest from clients across all markets to incorporate health and wellness as part of a sustainable strategy, focusing on healthy materials, air quality and active design,” states Katherine Gerzina. “Given that the average American spends over 90% of their life indoors, it’s important to design environments — especially the workplace —with health-promoting standards. It’s an exciting movement. We have already started to implement Fitwel standards in many of our projects.”

Fitwel is a healthy building certification that optimizes building occupant health and productivity through targeted improvements to workplace design and policies. This standard allows buildings to be assessed against a baseline of evidence-based criteria that define a health-promoting environment. To become a Fitwel Ambassador, Gerzina completed the Ambassador Course which introduced her to the rationale and evidence used to develop Fitwel and its high impact strategies.
